14/1/1841 Staffordshire Gazette and County Standard Staffordshire, England: Joseph Peace and Henry Collier, for stealing five duck?, the property of Thomas Payne, at Burton-upon-Trent, were sentenced to 10 years' transportation. Joseph peace was also on board Eden. Henry Collier was listed as 20 years old on arrival, born Burton upon Trent - He was 5'4 3/4" tall, fresh complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, can read and write, single, Roman Catholic, H on left arm, scars on 1st finger left hand, scar over left eye. Occupation: Brickmaker/Malster. Father: Thomas Brothers:John, Thomas, William, Joseph Sisters: Ann, Elizabeth - all at native place. 17/1/1846: TOL 5/1/1848: Free Certificate. By 1850: Marriage/relationship with Elizabeth Smith b. 1824, d. 18 Jun 1900 - she was reportedly Aboriginal and Henry was previously married to someone else (but no one knows who). 1850: Rachel Collier born - Rachel Elizabeth Collier- Smith, b. 25 August 1850, d. 23 November 1928 - she married George James Price and had 14 children. On the birth Certificate of his daughter Rachel Henry's occupation is recorded as Master Mariner. This may or may not be correct. A convict transported to Australia for stealing fowls. Very little is known about him. We know he was married to an unknown woman before he met Smith. We do however have details of his convict record: Convict No. 5799 Offence: Stealing Sentence: 2 Years Station: Cascades Tried 5 January 1841. Stafford, 7 years. aged 20. Trade: Brick Maker and Malster. N.P. Burton upon Trent. Departure 22 March 1842 Departure Port Woolwich Arrived 5 July 1842 Per 'Eden' (2) Released on first stage of probation 5 July 1844. At Jericho 1845, Lovely Banks. T.L. 1846 Freed by sentence 5 January 1848. Conduct record CON33/22 Conduct: good. Height: medium.
