Despite his 14 year sentence, Cramp received a ticket of leave by early 1844 and in December 1844 a pardon conditional on him not returning to Europe or any of the British Colonies in the Americas. That same month he advertised as a music seller in Hobart, and as a music master. he was declared insolvent in 1847 and died in 1849. His son Richard was also in the colony.
