Hobart Town Gazette, 10 June 1825. The following Prisoners have absented themselves from Macquarie Harbour, between Feb 26 and March 8, 1825: James Nuth (95), 5ft. 3 ½ in. light brown hair, grey eyes, 22 years of age, a sweep, tried at Somerset March 1822, sentence life, arrived in this Colony per Caledonia 1822, native place Bath, Caroline Silk, J. N. on right arm. man and woman on left arm, absconded from Macquarie Harbour, March 8, 1825,-£2 Reward.

13/4/1822: Bristol Mercury Bristol, England James Nuth and. Daniel Newmian, for stealing dishes and platen. Daniel Newman was also aboard the Caladonia. James was 5’3 ½” tall, light brown hair, grey eyes, Caroline Silk, J.N. on right arm, man and woman on left arm.

Previous conviction for Housebreaking - 6 months in Ilchester Gaol. Parents lived at Wick. Sentenced at Bath to Transportation for life. Arrived Van Diemans Land per Caledonia 2, 1822. 1823, returned by his employer to Public Works and recommended not to be appointed in Hobart Town. 1824, absconded from employer and going into the bush and afterwards escaping from Constable Wood who had apprehended him. 50 lashes. 1824, Absconded from P.B. (Prison Barracks?) into the woods - sent to Macquarie Harbour for 5 years.
