The Hooghley was built in London in 1819. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Hooghley in 1825, 1828, 1831 and 1834. 1831 Voyage - Hooghley. Shipping; Intelligence. ARRIVALS. From Cork, on Tuesday last, whence she sailed the 24th June last, the ship, Hooghley,309 tons, Captain Reeves, with- 184 female prisoners. Ann Searson was 25 years old on arrival in NSW. Ann was assigned to the Female Factory at Parramatta on arrival. 8/8/1832: Married James Turner (Perseus and Coromandel 1802) – 1 child, Jane Ann Turner 1838-1913. 23/12/1839: COF
Family connections for Ann (Searson) are: SEARSON [Ann (Searson) was born about 1806 & became a servant. She was tried for vagrancy at Waterford Ireland, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 9 1831 after a voyage of 3months on HOOGHLEY; she was assigned to Parramatta Female Factory. She married James (Turner his third marriage) on 8 8 1832 at St Johns CofE Wilberforce & produced 1child. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom on 23 12 1839.] [Some details taken from this Website] James (Turner) was born about 1792. It seems he firstly (1of3) married Margaret (??? her first marriage). He was tried at Sussex Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 8 1802 after a voyage of 7months on PERSEUS. He married secondly (2of3) as emancipist Eleanor (Williams) her second marriage) on 13 8 1810 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He was issued his Conditional Pardon in 1813. He is recorded at Wilberforce on 28 6 1820, North Richmond on 26 9 1825 & Windsor on 14 10 1826 with wife & 3children. He died on 12 12 1855 age63 father of maybe 3children at Wilberforce Hawkesbury father of maybe 2known children. Ann Searson was born in Tipperary, County Waterford, Ireland. She was tried in the City of Waterford and sentenced to seven years of transportation. Arriving on the Hooghly on 27th September 1831, Ann was initially assigned to the Female Factory at Parramatta, an infamous prison for women.
